Now that the overnight severe weather and flash flood threats have ended, attention at the National Weather Service office in Paducah now turns to an extended heatwave that will impact the region for several days.
Beginning Saturday through next Wednesday, meteorologists are forecasting daily peak heat index values of 100 to 107° on top of actual air temperatures in the lower to middle 90s.
Although nothing has been issued yet, the Weather Service anticipates that a heat advisory will be needed. During that time, caution will be needed while spending time outdoors, with special attention to children and the elderly, as well as outdoor pets and livestock.
