Hundreds of people gathered on the shore of Kentucky Lake Saturday, and many of them took the plunge to raise more than $70,000 for Special Olympics.
The annual Polar Plunge took place at Kentucky Dam Village with dozens of individuals and teams jumping into the chilly waters. Lots more ran in the Polar 5K across the dam.
This year's efforts surpassed the goal of $60,000 which was the total from the past two years.
The funding covers the expenses of helping hundreds of local Special Olympics athletes compete at events statewide in the coming year.
