A bullet hole was found in a Marshall County school bus.
Marshall County School Superintendent Bill Thorpe issued a statement on Thursday alerting parents of the discovery. Thorpe said that the hole was found during what was described as a pre-trip inspection. The bullet reportedly did not pierce the inner wall of the bus.
As soon as the bullet hole was located, the school system contacted the Marshall County Sheriff's Office and an investigation was launched. There was no indication in the statement hinting at when the bullet hit the bus, or where in the county. The Sheriff's Office, though, believes it is safe to continue normal bus operations.
Thorpe said the district is cooperating with the investigation and that the safety of students and staff is a top priority. He said they are committed to getting answers about the incident and will keep families informed.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Marshall County Sheriff's Office at 270-527-3112.
