A partnership between a local non-profit and a major healthcare provider will help get basic necessities to the homeless.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicaid is donating $10,000 to Paducah Community Kitchen to create and run a "care closet." The funds will go toward stocking the closet with personal hygiene products like toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, feminine products, and laundry detergent.

Leon Lamoreaux, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicaid President in Kentucky said, “Everyone deserves dignity, respect and good health, and these care closets are one way we at Anthem are supporting efforts that ensure our most vulnerable neighbors across the Commonwealth can access essential hygiene products and supplies in a safe, humane and dignified way.”

“Right now, too many Kentuckians experiencing homelessness lack adequate access to routine personal care and hygiene products that many of us take for granted,” said State Senator Danny Carroll.

“We salute the work of the Paducah Community Kitchen in addressing the physical, psychological and emotional needs of countless individuals in McCracken County," said Lamoreaux.

Carroll added, "I am proud to support this exciting partnership between Anthem and Paducah Community Kitchen, and I stand with them in continuing our collective efforts to guarantee that more people across the Commonwealth can focus on building a brighter future for themselves.”

In total, Anthem is partnering with eight organizations across Kentucky to create these "care closets," donating $80,000.
