Paducah Police said Tuesday the investigation began in May when they learned from the 75-year-old victim that 60-year-old Penny Baird had taken her credit card and opened numerous credit cards in her name without her permission.
During the course of the investigation, it was learned the victim had been diagnosed with dementia. By reviewing bank statements, investigators confirmed numerous irregularities, including fraudulent transactions totaling approximately $3,900.
The length of the case was due to the necessary process of obtaining subpoenaed financial records, which had to be carefully reviewed before charges could be pursued.
Baird was located at her residence September 10th and arrested on a warrant for Knowingly Abusing or Neglecting an Adult . She was lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
