After the seven hottest weeks of the year statistically, Paducah is finally on the downward slope toward cooler fall temperatures.
National Weather Service recordkeeping shows that beginning every July 2, Paducah's average high temperature hits 90 degrees, and it stays at an average of 90 every day for nearly two months.
Only until last Sunday, August 21, did Paducah's average daily high slip to 89 degrees.
By this coming Sunday the 28th, it'll notch down to 88, and 87 by Saturday, Sept. 2.
After that, the cooldown curve is much steeper. Average daily highs will drop a degree every few days, to 78 by the end of September, and 65 by Halloween, Oct. 31.
Morning lows will also retreat; this week's average low of 66 will become 59 on Sept. 15, and 49 on Oct. 11.
This year the first day of fall is September 22.
The sun is setting earlier every evening, and a shorter day means temperatures will gradually start to slip as summer gives way to autumn in September. (Photo: US National Weather Service Paducah KY Facebook)
