Paducah assault suspect now facing murder charge

A Paducah man has been charged with murder after the person he allegedly assaulted last Thursday died.

The charge against 34-year-old George E. Brown was upgraded from assault to Murder on Wednesday following the death of 60-year-old Timmy Burton at Baptist Health Paducah. 

Officers said Burton never regained consciousness and was removed from life support. 

Brown was arrested after authorities learned a maintenance man at a local hotel had been assaulted. Officers said they found the victim unconscious in a hallway with multiple head injuries.

According to the police department, the victim went to a room occupied by Brown to speak with him when Brown began assaulting him.

Police said Brown fled on foot following the incident, but was later arrested on McGuire Avenue.
