Paducah Parks and Recreation Department crews will begin their annual spring cleaning and maintenance audit at Oak Grove Cemetery on March 28.
Each spring and fall, the Department reviews the city-owned cemetery on Park Avenue to determine maintenance needs. The process will include the removal of decorations not permitted in the cemetery's guidelines.
Park officials ask families to visit burial plots and remove prohibited items before March 28. After that date and during each audit sweep, crews will remove and discard banned items.
Approved burial plot items include fresh or artificial flowers in a vase that's permanently mounted, flowers in hanging baskets or a hanging solar lantern on an iron or steel single hook shepherd's hook 48 inches in length, and monument benches placed by a monument company and set as the headstone.
Items that are not approved include toys, ornaments, borders, plantings, ground covers, candles, unsecured garden benches, or fragile items such as glass.
Any family or organization that would like to provide maintenance on family plots should contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 270-444-8508.
