Last week, North Calloway County Elementary received a $5,000 grant from the Tennessee Valley Authority.
The grant in partnership with Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc. is for developing science, technology, engineering and math education projects to help spark student interest in future careers in STEM-related fields.
"I am so grateful for this opportunity to put engaging STEM materials into the hands of our students," said North Elementary Media Specialist Laken Falwell.
They said the money would be used to purchase materials that will allow students to build further the school's literacy lessons that connect each week with different themes and concepts.
Since 2018, TVA and BVI have awarded nearly $2 million in STEM grants to support local education.
