Murray man accused of stealing letters, packages from mailboxes

A Murray man was arrested and charged with stealing packages and letters from residential mailboxes.

Wednesday afternoon just after 2 p.m., callers to Calloway 911 said the driver of a vehicle in the Panorama Shores area was attempting to tamper with mailboxes. Deputies with the Calloway County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Austin Jones of Murray and through their investigation found that he had allegedly taken letters and packages from over a dozen mailboxes. Deputies do not believe he took packages from porches.

Jones was arrested and charged with theft of mail and possession of stolen mail. He was taken to the Calloway County Detention Center.
