During a meeting last week, the Murray Independent School Board made an announcement on the pending approval of the purchase of property for construction of a new elementary school.
The Murray Ledger and Times reported the property for the proposed school will be located in the general area of Doran and Wiswell roads.
Murray Independent School District attorney Chip Adams said a request for approval from the Kentucky Department of Education will be submitted within the next week.
Adams added the parcel of land has been identified as being of a size sufficent to construct an elementary school.
Superintendent Coy Sammons said if the facility is constructed, it would be a K-4 facility for nearly 750 students.
