More rounds of rain are still in the region's forecast into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Only a few showers are expected across the area today before more rain surges back from the south tonight and into Friday morning. Moderate to heavy rain may result, and a rumble of thunder might accompany the storms.
A short dry period is expected to build late Friday morning before more scattered showers develop by Friday afternoon.
The heavier rain looks to be southeast of our region, including the Pennyrile region of western Kentucky and especially middle Tennessee.
Drier weather returns regionwide on Sunday into Monday.
Temperatures will remain well above normal in the upper 50s and even low 60s. Average highs for the last week of the year in Paducah are 46 and 29 degrees.
