A Milburn man and his wife were arrested Thursday on drug and other charges.

The Carlisle County Sheriff's Office had been conducting an investigation over the last couple of months which found 44 year old Tony Adams and his wife Casey received numerous Cash App deposits from family members of inmates that were incarcerated at the Ballard County Jail.

Adams would then use a debit card to withdraw the deposits and then purchase THC vapes, pre-paid cell phones and cell phone minutes for inmates on his work detail.

On August 2nd a deposit was made to the Cash App account with a specific inmate’s name in the notes for $30.00.

According to the investigation the $30.00 was for the purchase of methamphetamine and a witness stated that they observed Adams give the inmate a bag of meth. The inmate that received the meth tested positive during a drug screen at the Ballard County Jail.

Also, during the investigation video surveillance was obtained from a local Dollar General that shows Adams purchasing a pre-paid cell phone card. The receipt from that transaction and the phone the minutes were added to, was located in a cell inside the Ballard County Jail.

Jailers also located THC vapes that are alleged to have come from inmates on Adams detail.

Adams was arrested Thursday while at work. During a search of Adams, a small quantity of methamphetamine was located in his wallet.

Adams confessed he and his wife were receiving deposits via Cash App and that he would then purchase vapes, phones and phone minutes.

When confronted about the methamphetamine he stated the meth the inmate obtained came from him, but he didn’t sell it. Adams added the inmate allegedly stole his meth.

Adams then changed his story to, that it was not his meth, but he did allow the inmates to use his cell phone to arrange a drug deal. He then admitted that he drove the inmates to meet a drug dealer where a transaction was conducted.

Adams' employment was terminated immediately by the Carlisle County Road Department.

Tony Adams was was charged with three counts of promoting contraband, trafficking in controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was lodged in the Carlisle County jail.

Casey Adams was charged with one count of complicity to promoting contraband. She was cited and released.
