Mayfield native Tripp Gibson will make his World Series umpiring debut on Friday.

Gibson will be part of the seven man umpire crew for this year's series between the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies.

The series will start on Friday in Houston for games one and two and then shift to Philadelphia for games three, four and five if needed. Gibson will start the series at second base in game one, move to first base in game two, and then be off for game three. He will get his chance behind the plate calling balls and strikes during game 4 in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Gibson, a Graves County High School and Murray State alum, made his Major League debut July 8, 2013. He was promoted to full time in 2015.

He worked his first postseason in 2017, umpiring in the 2017 American League Wild Card Game. Last season Gibson made his championship series debut as he umpired the NLCS between the Dodgers and Braves. Prior to this year's World Series he worked the NLDS between the Padres and Dodgers.
