The homeowners contacted the Graves County Sheriff's office on Wednesday after they observed an unknown man pull into their Hopewell Road driveway.
They said the suspect checked out the carport and other areas, then knocked several times on the front door. The homeowners were not home, but were watching on their doorbell camera. They did not yet respond to the suspect, who eventually backed his vehicle into the carport and opened the trunk.
At this point the homeowners yelled through the doorbell camera at the suspect. The startled suspect spoke into the camera, claiming that he was there to offer home repairs. He said he would leave his card on the door, but then got in his car and fled without closing his trunk.
A still photo was posted to the Graves County Sheriff's Office Facebook page in an attempt to identify the suspect.
Shortly after that posting, employees at the Tractor Supply store in Mayfield called to report that the same suspect was in their store and attempted to steal three chainsaws but was thwarted by store employees. He was once again captured on video surveillance and pointed out by eyewitnesses.
Store employees also obtained a photograph of the suspect's car and license number.
Deputies located and arrested 44-year-old Johnny J. Harrison for criminal trespass.
Deputies posted that Harrison has an extensive history of ten similar acts since 2015, as well as felony drug possession convictions.
Harrison is currently on felony probation.
Additional charges related to the attempted thefts at Tractor Supply are pending.
