A man accused of threatening the life of Graves County Commonwealth Attorney Richie Kemp was apprehended on Friday.
The Graves County Sheriff's Office said Friday that 38-year-old Brandon I. Cavette according to a source attempted to hire individuals from the Houston, TX area to have Kemp killed.
Cavette was arrested in January of 2023 by deputies on felony drug trafficking charges after a search of his home on Key Bottom Road. Deputies seized 15 pounds of processed marijuana, 4,226 Ecstasy pills, and 3,255 Etizolam pills, along with $8,000 dollars in cash.
Cavette has since been indicted by a Graves County Grand Jury and is awaiting trial. Meanwhile, investigation revealed that Cavett was upset at Mr. Kemp for prosecuting him on the case, and upset at a 14-year offer from the prosecutor.
The threats made by Cavett were reportedly secured by way of audio recordings.
Cavette, who is known to reside in both Graves and McCracken counties, was located by way of surveillance of a Paducah residence on Friday. He was arrested and brought back to the Graves County Sheriff's Office and was later transported to an out of county detention facility.
Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
