Lane restrictions will be coming to the I-24 Ohio River Bridge beginning in December.
Crews from the Illinois Department of Transportation will be inspecting the bridge prior to the start of rehab work on the span. Normally, inspections are conducted in March during odd-numbered years, according to IDOT. However, with the anticipated multi-year project set to begin in the Spring, the inspection will take place beginning December 2nd.
The inspection will occur over two weeks, weather permitting, starting with the eastbound lanes. Plans call for lane closures to begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, December 2nd, and run through 5 p.m. on Friday, December 6th. Then they will reduce lanes on the westbound side from 8 a.m. on Monday, December 9th, and continue through 5 p.m. on Friday, December 13th.
Illinois State Police and local law enforcement will assist with traffic control. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will also help to alert drivers approaching from the Kentucky side.
