For several days, the National Weather Service office in Paducah has been watching the development of a potentially significant severe weather event on Monday afternoon and especially Monday evening.
Meteorologists think storms will first develop in southeast Missouri and grow into supercells. As they move east, they may organize into a powerful squall line during the evening.
Possible hazards include strong tornadoes of EF-2 intensity or higher; destructive straight line winds, and very large hail of 2 inch diameter or larger.
In the past day, the area of enhanced risk (level 3 out of 5) has grown to include our entire quad state region.
The details are still unclear, but they should become clearer in the next 24 hours.
