Illinois State Police investigate inmate death in Massac County

The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation announced on Thursday that they are investigating an inmate's death in Massac County.

ISP said that on Wednesday at about 9:15 a.m., correctional officers at the Massac County Jail discovered the body of 43-year-old Dennis F. Schapmire of Ozark, Illinois in his cell. Investigators said an autopsy was conducted in Williamson County. A cause of death has not been released, as toxicology results are pending.

No other information is being released, given that this is an open investigation. 

The Massac County Sheriff's Department asked ISP to handle the case.
