A Benton man is in custody after attempting to flee from police Friday morning.
A Calloway County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations on Highway 80 at 4 a.m.
They said the vehicle fled and drove at excessive speeds for about 15 minutes, until it ended up on a road that was closed.
The driver, 62-year-old Barry C. Jones, attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by the deputy.
Jones was lodged at the Calloway County Detention Facility. He was charged with fleeing or evading police and resisting arrest. He also was wanted for parole violations and failure to comply with the sex offender registry.
