Incumbent Jason Howell won the Republican Primary in a reelection bid for the Kentucky Senate.
Howell from Murray is seeking his second term in the Kentucky Senate. He defeated former State Representative Lynn Bechler of Marion by just over 3,000 votes - 5,266 votes to 2,258. Howell is the chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee and has led the charge attempting to bring a veterinary school to Murray State University.
The First Senatorial District includes Calloway, Crittenden, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Lyon, and Trigg Counties.
