A Graves County woman was flown to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle Friday night.

The Graves County Sheriff's Office said they were called to the 300 block of KY 348 East of Symsonia around 5:45pm to a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian. The Sheriff's Office said they found 77-year-old Betty Ray on the side of the road with apparent injuries to her lower extremities. Symsonia Fire Department personnel were on scene and providing emergency medical care to Ray.

The Sheriff's Office said Ray was the passenger of a vehicle hauling a camper Eastbound on KY 348 and exited the vehicle in an attempt to stop traffic so the camper could be backed into a residence.

While Ray was attempting to stop traffic, 28-year-old Quintin Pouliot was traveling Westbound towards KY 131. Due to the time of day and other conditions Pouliot was reportedly unable to see Ray standing in the Westbound Lane. Pouliot struck Ray with his vehicle and came to a stop about 20 feet after the collision.

Mayfield/Graves County EMS arrived on scene and assumed medical care of Ray. Ray was ultimately transported to the Symsonia Elementary School where a landing zone was set up so she could be flown by AirEvac to an out of state hospital for treatment of her injuries.
