Graves County Deputy Jailer Robert Daniel was one of seven officers honored Thursday during the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony. Those honored lost their lives in 2021 in service to the commonwealth.

Governor Andy Beshear said that 12 officers' names had been added to the  Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation monument this year, including five historical honorees.

Daniel was honored as he was killed during the Dec. 10 tornado overseeing prisoners on work release at the Mayfield Candle Factory.

Other officers honored statewide include Hassan Hassan, Wagner  Baskett, Jr., Gary  Crump, II, Brandon  Shirley, Oliver Little and Zachary  Cottongim.

The five historical honorees added to the monument this year are Albert Franklin, Alonzo Robinson, Isaac Pennington, Marion Layne and George Benz.

The memorial foundation was established in 1999 to build a monument recognizing Kentucky officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
