During his Thursday Team Kentucky update, Governor Andy Beshear reminded viewers about a 2024 announcement where nearly 1,000 rental units were commissioned for construction in western Kentucky.
He said construction is expected to begin in the coming months through the organization Spirit Of Christmas All Year Round, Incorporated.
Beshear said 294 of the units will be built in Mayfield, Dawson Springs and Bowling Green as part of recovery from the 2021 tornadoes.
Specifically, Beshear said 66 are planned for the new Commonwealth Court in Mayfield, 48 in the new Marketplace Commons in Dawson Springs, and 180 in the new Emery Flats in Bowling Green.
Christian County is also still on the list for property development through the effort.
Marketplace Commons is designed to be apartments for families earning 60% or less of the area median income.
