Greg Cannon has announced plans to seek the 1st District County Commissioner seat in McCracken County.
In a statement, the current member of the Brooks Stadium Commission and county administrator said: "My varied education and work experience provides me a unique perspective that can benefit our county as we have a chance to enter a period of growth that we have not seen since construction began on the Gaseous Diffusion Plant. My experiences in these fields have helped me understand how important it is for local government to be business friendly but also realize there is a need for rules and regulations.
As one of your county commissioners two of my priorities will be to address our housing shortages and the flooding issues so many of our residents have faced in recent years. As a community, we will not be able to take full advantage of this potential growth if we do not address these issues."
Cannon has spent the last nine years in county government. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Murray State University majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry in 2001 and an MBA in 2014. Cannon also earned a Juris Doctor from Barkley School of Law in 2008. He is also a graduate of Lone Oak High School and is a lifelong resident of Paducah.
Cannon is seeking the seat currently held by Bill Bartleman. Bartleman recently announced his re-election bid.
