Four people are in custody after an off-duty officer noticed a burglary in progress on Wednesday.

The Murray Police Department said an off-duty officer with their department noticed the burglary in progress around 3:08 pm in the Coldwater Road area in Murray where the suspects left in a vehicle.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle which led to multiple occupants of the vehicle fleeing on foot. Multiple officers and deputies from the Murray Police Department, Murray State University Police Department, and Calloway County Sheriff’s Office responded.

One of the suspects that fled on foot was allegedly in possession of a firearm which he pulled out and discarded in an apparent attempt to hide it.

All four people were soon caught and arrested.

They charged 18-year-old Kered James Miles of Carbondale, IL with burglary and fleeing.
