Former Murray PD detective Swope waives arraignment in Trigg case

The former Murray Police detective charged in sex crimes cases in Calloway and Trigg County waived arraignment in the Trigg County cases Wednesday.

The Murray Ledger and Times reported Justin Swope of Almo was indicted by a Trigg County grand jury July 13th on eight counts of rape, sexual abuse, and unlawful transaction with a minor under 18. 

The indictment alleged these acts occurred in May, 2019 in the Land Between the Lakes Area when the victim was under 16.

Swope's next court appearance in Trigg County is set for November 12th.

Meanwhile, Swope's next court appearance in Calloway County is set for Monday.  He was indicted June 26th on 30 charges of sex crimes with the same victim.

Swope is being held on two $500,000 bonds in each case at the Marshall County Jail. 

During Wednesday's proceedings, Swope's attorney filed a motion asking for bond in the Trigg case to be reduced to $50,000.  The prosecution has not filed a response, nor has Trigg Circuit Judge Natalie White ruled on it.
