This is Kentucky’s first confirmed measles case since four were reported in Jessamine County in January of this year. Last year, thirteen cases were reported statewide, compared to zero in 2024 and one case in 2023.
Officials said the patient had a high number of community exposures, and additional unconfirmed reports are raising concerns about a broader local outbreak.
WKDZ reported that an unvaccinated person was likely exposed through contact with an out-of-state visitor from an area experiencing an active outbreak.
The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services along with the Christian County Health Department are working to identify potential exposures and notify those at risk.
Health officials are urging residents to review their measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination status. The disease is highly contagious, spreads through the air, and can remain airborne for up to two hours.
