A house fire in Calloway County Thursday morning led to an explosion with four firefighters inside the home who made it out with "minor or no injuries."

Calloway County Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a house fire on Coopertown Road just north of Lynn Grove. The fire was in the garage area of the house and spreading towards the living areas of the home.

Four firefighters entered the home to ventilate in an effort to stop the fire from spreading. Once they began to attempt to ventilate the wall there was an explosion inside the home authorities said was strong enough to cause all the exterior walls to be pushed away from the foundation.

All four firefighters made it out of the structure with minor or no injuries. The explosion rendered the structure too unstable to re-enter.

In a post on Facebook Calloway County Fire and Rescue Chief Tommy Morgan said the four firefighters had only been inside the residence a few minutes.

“It was a wonder we didn’t have someone hurt or even killed,” Chief Morgan said in the post. “I wasn’t there yet, but (from what they said) they hadn’t been inside but maybe three or four minutes. We don't know what exactly happened yet, but, of course, there was a very large explosion, and it actually knocked them plumb off their feet and on their backs inside the house. One went to the hospital to be checked out, and he was released. He wasn’t transported; he went on his own, more or less as (a precaution).”

Eight trucks were said to be on scene with at least 24 firefighters.
