Federal funding is coming to Graves County to support a solar energy project.
WK&T is set to receive a grant totaling $589,592 to install a solar energy system. The system will generate enough energy to power around 38 homes with over 409,000 kilowatt hours of electricity produced annually. The company said that they should see a yearly savings of over $51,000 from the system.
The grant was part of a $1.7 million package of grants for a total of nine projects statewide, according to Dr. Tom Carew, the Kentucky State Director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Carew said, " More and more Kentucky farmers and rural small businesses are learning about the benefits of energy efficiency upgrades and renewable energy systems."
The funding comes from the USDA's Rural Energy for America program.
