Western Kentucky residents are starting to see FEMA crews in neighborhoods helping those affected by the May severe weather apply for federal disaster assistance.

FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance crews are covering Calloway, Caldwell, Christian, Hopkins, Todd and Trigg counties.

The FEMA crews will:

- provide guidance to residents about the application process and an overview of what disaster assistance is available.
- review survivors' applications and collect new information or documents for case files.
- engage local officials in identifying immediate unmet needs for a quick resolution by FEMA or other voluntary agencies.

All FEMA representatives carry an identification badge with a photograph. A FEMA shirt or jacket is not proof of identity.

FEMA warns that scam artists may pose as government officials, aid workers or insurance company employees. FEMA representatives never charge applicants for disaster assistance, inspections or help in filling out applications.
