The McCracken County Sheriff's Office Friday received a complaint from a local business of a threat of a mass shooting.
Officials of the business said the previous day they terminated the employment of an employee, who was living on the business property at the time.
The business reported that a male, living with the employee, had text messaged another person, stating he was near to "going on a killing spree."
A deputy responded to the scene and identified the former employee as 55-year-old Sonya S. Leeds, of Gilbert, AZ.
The male was identified as 51-year-old Edward E. Collett, of Mesa, AZ. Leeds and Collett returned to the business at 11 a.m. to retrieve items they'd left behind. Deputies were there when they arrived.
Deputies obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and hotel room. They allegedly located a loaded 40-caliber pistol in the trunk of the car. A hotel room search uncovered a 9-mm Hipoint carbine and quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana.
Leeds and Collett reportedly have previous felony convictions, prohibiting them from owning or possessing firearms. Collet has a lengthy criminal history from multiple states.
Both reportedly were arrested without incident and transported to the McCracken County Regional Detention Facility.
