Calvert City, partnering the past two years with the Tennessee RiverLine, has conducted the Community Planning Initiative via the Tennessee RiverTowns Program. One result is that Calvert City will host an open house September 29 between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in Calvert City Memorial Park. The event will showcase the proposed conceptual design of Haddox Ferry.
The Tennessee RiverLine gathered feedback from community members through surveys and in-person discovery sessions highlighting how they currently access and enjoy the Tennessee River and capturing their visions for enhanced river use.
Tennessee RiverLine’s Planning and Design team, collaborating with communities' Local Leadership Teams, used that feedback to develop ideas for riverfront infrastructure. The ideas provide better access to the river and can improve experiences both on and by the river. The upcoming open house offers opportunities to see the conceptual designs.
and help refine the ideas under consideration.
The two-phase Community Planning Initiative helps participating communities to understand their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and aspirations for riverfront access and infrastructure. As communities enrolled in the Tennessee RiverTowns Program, they make progress toward implementing their local vision for the Tennessee RiverLine, North America’s next great regional trail system.
CPI is made possible by funding through the US Department of Agriculture Rural Placemaking Innovation Challenge and from the support of 3M Decatur with funds from the 3M Foundation and the Tennessee RiverLine’s principal partners, the Tennessee Valley Authority and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
The open house is presented free-of-charge to attend and offers an opportunity for residents to shape the local vision for Haddox Ferry. It takes place in Calvert City Memorial Park September 29 between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. during Food Truck Friday. The evening concludes with a Moonlight Movie Night showing of the original "Ghostbusters."
