A traffic stop in Calloway County ended with drug charges on Wednesday.
The Calloway County Sheriff's Office said the Calloway County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division, assisted by the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, conducted a traffic stop on S. 12th Street in Murray at around 9 pm. During the stop, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office K9 Drax was deployed, while the driver, 32-year-old Morgen Borens of Murray and a juvenile front-seat passenger were detained.
Deputies said they found methamphetamine, prescription pills, marijuana, and drug trafficking paraphernalia while searching the vehicle.
As a result, deputies conducted a search of a home on State Route 94E. When deputies arrived they encountered 48-year-old Denny Cope of Benton who had just arrived at the location and was allegedly attempting to tamper with physical evidence. Cope was immediately detained.
While searching the home deputies said they found additional quantities of methamphetamine, prescription pills, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
In total, approximately 6.5 ounces of methamphetamine were seized from both locations, along with marijuana, prescription pills, and U.S. currency.
Borens was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cope was charged with tampering with physical evidence.
