A Cadiz man was arrested over the weekend following an investigation into forgery and drugs.
Trigg County Sheriff’s deputies went to a home on Apostle Paul Loop Saturday morning in an attempt to find a Cadiz man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant. They found him at that location, inside a camper, allegedly with suspected methamphetamine out in the open. A search of the camper is said to have uncovered more suspected meth, along with baggies, scales, and other paraphernalia associated with the packaging and sale of illegal drugs.
Also during their search, deputies reportedly came across a bag that had a compact printer and pages of what were believed to be forged barcodes. They scanned the barcodes and got information on actual items up for sale in stores. Investigators believe the man was photographing actual barcodes, taking them home to upload to his computer, then printing new labels for the items with a much lower price. He allegedly would then take the new labels, apply them to items in the store, and purchase the items at a significantly reduced price.
The man was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, illegal possession of a legend drug, and criminal possession of a forged instrument. More charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
