During his regular Team Kentucky update, Governor Andy Beshear declared a State of Emergency over the price of gasoline, and pledged help for Graves County farmers affected by the December tornado.

The Governor signed the emergency declaration to activate state laws protecting consumers from price gouging at the pump. Beshear sought the opinion of Attorney General Daniel Cameron before declaring the emergency.  Cameron's office felt the impact would be minimal, but Beshear thought it was worth it.

Beshear also announced that the Team Kentucky West Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund would be assisting Graves County grain farmers with a $3.25 million fund to help offset rising operating costs, since tornado damage to Mayfield Grain Company's elevator has limited its capacity.

Costs have increased for farmers, due to having to transport grain a minimum of 50 miles farther to sell, while Mayfield Grain is under repair.

Graves County Judge Executive Jesse Perry said, "After talking with local farmers about how the tornado had affected each of them in the county, I knew that we had to have outside assistance. We are so very thankful that the Governor and the Public Protection Cabinet have worked together to provide this program to help our local farmers during this time."

Beshear added, "Graves County has an extraordinary agricultural heritage. It boasts the fifth largest grain production in the state and is first in total value of agricultural products sold in Kentucky. It is critical that we do more to help this essential industry recover."
