Ballard County received one of ten state grants for improvements to their county fairgrounds.
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture awarded grants totaling $749,000 for new construction and renovation projects.
From that, Ballard County received $44,117.19 for installation of a horse barn and metal stalls.
Commissioner Jonathan Shell said the funding covered a record number of counties this year to enrich the fair experience for their communities and agricultural partners.
According to the department, any incorporated fair board in Kentucky may apply for future grants in the amount of $10,000-$100,000.
Each grant can fund 75 percent of the total cost of a project, with the local fair board matching the other 25 percent.
