An arrest has been made in a months-long investigation of storage unit burglaries in McCracken County.

The burglaries and vandalism occurred at the Stone Creek Storage Units in Farley during August and September. McCracken County Sheriff's detectives said that 43 units at that facility were hit.

A break in the case came on Friday at about 9:30 p.m. when a man was reported to be in the act of burglarizing units. Deputies converged on the area. The man then fled into a nearby cornfield. Corporal Brad Lamb and Vegas tracked the man, identified as 46-year-old Jessie F. Cross, for a mile through the field. Cross was located but refused to cooperate and tried to flee again, but Vegas nabbed him and Cross was arrested.

Cross is from Harlan County and allegedly walked away from a halfway house in Paducah. He was charged with 43 counts of burglary, fleeing or evading police, and criminal mischief.
