Army officials said they have recovered the flight data recorders from the two 101st Airborne helicopters that crashed in Trigg County last Wednesday.
An aviation safety team from the U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center from Fort Rucker, Alabama retrieved the units, commonly referred to as “black boxes,” and took them to Fort Rucker for further analysis in the ongoing accident investigation.
Lt. Col. Tony Hoefler, a spokesman for the 101st Airborne Division, said they can’t provide a timeline as to when the investigation will be completed.
The two Black Hawk helicopters are believed to have collided in midair during the nighttime training exercise.
The helicopters had five and four soldiers in each vehicle, and were involved in standard training protocols when the crash occurred.
All nine soldiers’ remains have been transferred to Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.
