The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued another cold weather advisory for Tuesday, as the coldest portion of the Siberian Express air mass passes through our region before relief comes later this week.
The advisory in effect from 1 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday is for extreme wind chills of minus 5 to minus 9 degrees. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
Our northern areas like southern Illinois where there is still some snowpack won`t take much wind to drop and keep things at minus 10 or below.
Tuesday's daytime high will struggle to get to the upper teens, and one more single-digit morning is in store on Wednesday.
Once the coldest air passes through, a southerly flow will help return temperatures closer to normal for the rest of the week.
Wednesday afternoon will finally see temperatures get back above the freezing mark. Thursday and Friday will reach 40, and Saturday's gusty 50-degree day will also include some rain.
The best news is from NOAA's extended 8-to-14 day outlook, which says the eastern half of the country will finally get warmer than average temperatures for the week turning into February. Paducah's historical average high and low on Feb. 1 is 46 and 28 degrees.
