The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to pursue a reckless driver on Illinois Route 13. Callers said the driver appeared to be under age.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle on Route 13 at Carterville, but the driver continued on at more than 100 miles-per-hour to I-57.
The vehicle turned north onto the southbound exit ramp and drove into oncoming traffic for several miles before crossing into the northbound lanes.
According to deputies, the vehicle got off I-57 at Johnston City but slid off an embankment at the interchange.
The teen got out of the vehicle and tried to run away but was caught without further incident.
Deputies say the vehicle was stolen out of Carbondale, and the 13-year-old is believed to be one of three juveniles who ran away from a group home in Owensboro.
He was not injured and is currently in custody in Williamson County for aggravated fleeing and eluding, resisting a police officer and no driver’s license.
On Friday, another 13-year-old was involved in a high-speed pursuit in Graves County.
