Abren named High School Music Teacher of the Year

Mayfield High School Band Director Darrin Abren has been awarded the First District Kentucky Music Educators Association (FDKMEA) 2022-2023 High School Music Teacher of the Year. 

This honors those who exemplify teaching excellence in music education. Throughout his 26 years of teaching, students have received distinguished ratings at solo & ensemble assessments, qualified and seated high in various honor band clinics, as well as participated in All-State Bands. 

Mr. Abren currently has three former students in the music education field teaching at a very high level.  According to current FDKMEA Ginny Burchett, "If you were to ask them what has contributed to their success, it started with being under Mr. Abren's baton. Darrin is deserving of this award because of the outstanding work and standard of excellence with his program."
