Union County deputies were checking on a domestic disturbance near Morganfield when Clinton D. Snyder left the home and was later stopped by Sturgis police driving a pickup on KY 365. Snyder sped away, reportedly nearly striking at least one of the officers.
The chase went into Crittenden County, where Snyder's pickup struck a cruiser driven by the Crittenden County sheriff on Belles Mines Road.
After the collision, the pursuit continued back into Union County joined by Kentucky State Police. Union County deputies said they deployed stop sticks several times, but Snyder swerved into yards and corn fields to avoid them.
Webster County deputies were waiting on Snyder at the county line, but he again swerved his truck into a ditch and field and turned back into Union County.
The chase eventually circled back again to Crittenden County on US 60.
By this time police were able to reach Snyder on his phone, but they said he ignored requests to stop and end the pursuit peacefully. He instead reportedly announced his intention to end his life by crashing his vehicle.
Moments later, the truck crashed into an embankment near KY 365 and Chandler Farm Road. The pursuing Union County Sheriff then struck Snyder’s vehicle from behind, pinning the suspect’s vehicle against the embankment and ending the more than one and one half hour pursuit.
Police said Snyder exited his vehicle and surrendered. He was turned over to the Sturgis Police Department. He's lodged in the Webster County Jail on numerous felony charges.
More charges from multiple law enforcement agencies will also be pending.
