On Saturday, Fort Campbell soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division departed for the U.S. southern border with Mexico to support the U.S. Northern Command.

Soldiers assigned to the 716th Military Police Battalion will work closely with the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protections.

Before they left, the 716th MP had a ceremony where they received the historic 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagle” patch on their uniform.

The military moves follow an executive order from President Trump declaring a national emergency at the border.

The order signed last Monday mandates an increase in resources and a heightened military presence to manage border security.
