A 3.8 magnitude earthquake was detected overnight near Tennessee's Reelfoot Lake and was felt in five states.
The quake was the strongest in that area in the past six months, with the second strongest happening just two days earlier.
The quake occurred at 2:19 a.m. about four miles south of Ridgely and 12 miles north of Dyersburg.
Minor tremors are common at that location on the New Madrid Fault, with nearly three dozen detected around Ridgley in the past six months. But, almost all of those ranged from 1.2 to 1.6, below the threshold to be felt by humans.
According to reports turned in to the U.S. Geological Survey website, this morning's quake was felt well into southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.
Today's 3.8 quake closely follows a 2.3 tremor on Tuesday located about a mile to the east.
