Y. Charles Lu has been named director of the University of Kentucky's College of Engineering Paducah Campus effective July 1.
Lu has taught at UK since 2015 and served as director of undergraduate studies since 2021.
Lu, the H.E. Katterjohn Professor in Engineering, received his Ph.D. in mechanical and materials engineering from the University of Western Ontario in 2000 and has three master's degrees in mechanical engineering, materials engineering and mathematics.
His current research interests include composites and advanced materials, micromechanics and nanomechanics, and finite-element analysis and mechanical design. He held the research scientist position at the Air Force Research Laboratories, Branch of Composites and Hybrid Materials.
Lu is the Associate Editor of the Society of Automotive Engineers International Journal of Materials and Manufacturing and the SAE International Journal of Aerospace. He is the author of ten edited books and over 160 technical papers in referred journals, book chapters and conference proceedings.
For the last 25 years, the UK Paducah Campus has provided a unique opportunity for students in the region to earn engineering degrees. The program has graduated 500 engineers and many have stayed in the region. Faculty members and students have also developed sustainable engineering solutions that help people in countries around the world.
