McCracken County Emergency Management is announcing a permanent change to the monthly schedule to test their outdoor warning sirens.

The only change is the day of the month on which the routine test is conducted. Beginning this month, the monthly siren test will be conducted on the first Friday of each month at 1:00 p.m., replacing the longstanding testing schedule of the first Saturday of each month.

The testing procedure itself will remain unchanged. As in previous months, the test will consist of the attack tones being sounded first, followed by the alert tones.

Monthly testing is an important part of ensuring the county's warning system remains operational and ready to alert residents during emergencies, including tornado warnings.

Residents are reminded that the sirens are not intended to be relied upon as the sole means of receiving emergency notifications. McCracken County Emergency Management encourages everyone to have multiple ways to receive emergency warnings, including NOAA Weather Radio, local media, and wireless alerts on phones and trusted weather apps.
