A Benton man was jailed in connection with the break in of a pickup truck Frirday in Gilbertsville.

THe Marshall County Sheriff's Office said they were called by a resident from Patriot Street who observed an individual breaking into a pickup truck parked in his driveway.

The homeowner confronted the suspect and pursued him on foot, resulting in a brief physical altercation before the suspect fled the scene.

Deputies soon after identified the suspect as 50-year-old Paul J. Fleet of Benton and located him hiding beneath a blanket on the back porch of his residence on Patriot Street.

During the investigation, the victim positively identified Fleet and said he was the person involved in the physical altercation.

A search conducted during Fleet's arrest resulted in the recovery of quantity of suspected methamphetamine, along with multiple pieces of jewelry.

The victim later identified two rings and a necklace recovered from Fleet as property stolen from the vehicle.
Additional items were reported missing, with the total estimated value of the stolen property exceeding $1,000.
Some of the stolen property was recovered, while other items remain outstanding.

At the time of his arrest, Fleet was released on bond in connection with a separate felony narcotics case pending in Marshall Circuit Court. That case stems from an investigation conducted on June 19th.
