Superintendent Steve Carter said the McCracken County School Board met Thursday and decided that the first day of school would be August 24. He said plans will be finalized at the regularly-scheduled July 16 meeting, but there may still be adjustments as the fall semester begins.
McCracken County will utilize in-person teaching while following state guidelines, but Carter acknowledged that some families may need an alternative, so he assured them that virtual learning will still be available.
He said school officials will contact every family later this month to discuss the options with them.

Thank you for your support and patience as our school district prepares for a safe return to school using the state's Healthy @ School Guidance on Safety Expectations and Best Practices for Kentucky Schools.
Last night the McCracken County Schools Board of Education met and discussed the reopening of school this fall, including moving the first day of school for students to August 24.
The reopening plan will be finalized by the Board at the July 16 regular board meeting, with the understanding that changes may need to be implemented as we get closer to the start of school, or even after the start of the school year.
Our plan is for students to return to a traditional in-person instructional format using the guidelines and recommendations from the state. The guidance document can be found here- https://bit.ly/38Idjyd (see link)
However, we understand that some families may need an alternate learning option. McCracken County Schools will offer two learning options for students.
- Traditional in-person instruction
- Virtual/Distance learning instruction
In late July, each school will be contacting families in regards to which instruction delivery method they prefer for their child.
