This year marks the 150th anniversary of the battle of Ft. Donelson in Dover, TN. On May 24th at 7:00 pm, “Evening Upstairs” at the McCracken County Public Library will host Susan B. Hawkins, a National Park Ranger at the Ft. Donelson National Battlefield.

Hawkins will present “How Long Must We Suffer: Bereavement and Mourning in the Civil War.” She will share the stories of the civilians who lived near the battlefield and witnessed the battle and the aftermath in February 1862. She will also teach those who attend how to share these stories with their children.

Hawkins is a graduate of Murray State University and is completing her MA in teaching. She has been a National Park Ranger since 1992.

This program is free and presented by the library and is co-sponsored by The Kentucky Humanities Council. For more information, call Bobbie Wrinkle at 270-442-2510 ext. 119 or email her at bwrinkle@mclib.net .
